    Post Office is not the same now. It's computerised and a host of IT-enabled services are offered to the customers from Berhampur Head Post Office. A few examples are: e-pot, IMTS for international money transfer, imo for online domestic money transfer, web-based grievance handling, speed post with on-line track and trace, e-payment, e-bill mail service, on-line acceptance of applications under Right to Information Act and so on. Financial transactions are done at its state-of-the-art Finance Mart. It sells philatelly stamps. It's a national speed post centre. If you are a visitor to Berhampur and you don't have an address to receive your letter then don't worry. Tell your senders to send them care of postmaster and Postmaster Berhampur will be glad to serve you through the post restante facility.

    In this majestic temple evenings there used to be (in fifties) Katha Prasangams by learned teachers and pundits. One of them was Pandit Bheema Sastry garu (Telugu Pantulu)of Town High School. This temple was consturcted by the Pakanati family, who house was across the toad, next to the Ramalingam Tank.

    This is (was) a branch of Khallikote College (KC) had illustrious and dedicated teachers and Head Masters, whom we can never forget after more than 50 years. Originally called KC Town School (just Town School) was teaching upto Class 7 (middle school) and students moved to KC High Scohol (opposite to Khallikote College)-- next to the College ground (Is the building there?). Later the Town School was upgraded to a High School. (Town High School). KC Town High School/ KC High School rivalled the City High School near to Town High School) in excellence in performance (measured by the Matric results). All these schools produced famous personalities of the country. (Dr Kota Harinarayana, of ADA (which developed the Light Combat Aircraft) and University of Hyderabad) was a student of City School). While this school was preparing students for Matriculation ("Matric")-- 11 year course, KC started another school named KC Higher Secondary (KCHS) School near Gosaninuagam. Higher Secondary was a 10+2 course. 1961 was the first batch. After passing Matric in KC Town High School one had to join a 1-year Pre-University (i.e. 11+1) before joining a degree course. The Centenary Celebrations of the College/ School was celebrated in 1958 (?) in the College grounds. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan ((Vice President of India, then) was the chief guest.

    This was also called the RC Church (behind "Palli street" -- cemented in early 50's). There were fathers and brothers from Italy in the 50's. There was a beautiful, smiling Mary's statue tall (may be 8 to 10 ft tall; and every year all at Berhampur used to witness a solemn and prayerful festival called "Candle Festival" (all the processionists used to hold candles. People as far as Calcutta used to attend. It was a sight as if taken from the old British books. Heartless Vandalism has wiped the history. (Our family used to live behind the church and school). I have more things to share. This map has taken me back to the 50's, when I was a boy at Berhampur.
